According to the World Health Organization, “Burn-out is a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It is characterized by three dimensions:

  • feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion;
  • increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one’s job; and
  • reduced professional efficacy.

Burn-out refers specifically to phenomena in the occupational context and should not be applied to describe experiences in other areas of life.”

Shelly shares her story dealing with burnout and mental health issues, and how that inspired her to develop the ReST Revive Strive Thrive method.

Shelly Bhowmik, MD MPH is the founder of Platform Wellness, a wellness practice dedicated to helping women with burnout. 

Dr. Bhowmik is a double board-certified physician specializing in Preventive Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine. She earned her medical degree from the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and completed her Masters in Public Health and Preventive Medicine residency at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. 

She was a design thinking strategist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and served as medical director of digital health for an executive health firm in New York City.
